Our Bach and the Cosmos University Tour explores JS Bach’s use of mathematics – the language of the cosmos – through his most numerical piece: the Goldberg Variations.

We’ll tour to four of the UK’s best universities with Oxford mathematician James Sparks to present and explore Bach’s use of mathematical methodologies in his 30 Variations, using visuals and musical examples to illuminate the many structures and patterns contained within his masterful composition.

These university-associated concerts, taking place in Oxford, London, Cambridge and Bristol, fuse mathematical explanations with outstanding live performances from City of London Sinfonia Strings.

Our Bach and the Cosmos series is generously supported by Arts Council England, the Boris Karloff Charitable Foundation, John Ellerman Foundation and M&G Investments.
